International Kickboxing Championships WAKO BALTIC OPEN 2014
The 19th Annual International Kickboxing Championships WAKO BALTIC OPEN 2014 were held in the Kalev Sports Complex in Tallinn on 1 and 2 February.
The Baltic Open Kickboxing Championships were held as part of the sixth Estonian Open Martial Arts Games, where participants competed in boxing, taekwondo, wushu, karate, tolpar and sports chanbara. Championships in ring sports were held during these games among the strongest teams from Estonia, Russia, Latvia, Belarus, Finland and Israel, and Estonian championships on tatami were also organised.
The Estonian Academy of Kickboxing (EAK) won four gold medals and first place among teams on the basis of the result of the Open International Championships in Ring Sports.
One of the most memorable clashes was between debutant Roman Bondarevski and fighter Toni Heiskonen from the Tugev Tahe (Strong Will) sports club, which Roman won 3:0 on points. Ivan Kudrov is another debutant who stood out, beating kickboxer Maksim Tkalitš from SC BudoArt also 3:0.
Kaisa Kuusksalu’s clash against Jevgenia Nazarova from the Konkiro sports club deserved special attention, as our competitor managed to prevail in a tough match. Kaisa beat her opponent 3:0 on points.
Riman Abd el-Kader had to withdraw from the final match due to multiple injuries, which meant that first place went to Nikita Štšerbakov.
